All Hallows Eve

I got home early, checked on the turkey chili I had thrown in the crock pot that morning, cleaned up a bit and then went and picked up Swee’Pea and TheMonk from daycare. They were excited to see me but for a totally different reason than usual. They knew they were about to party.

I got them home, had them pee (Am I a veteran parent now, or what?), and then changed them into their costumes (which I kept referring to as “uniforms,” totally confusing them at times). Swee’Pea was so excited to wear her Tinkerbell outfit that I thought she just might explode right in front of my eyes. Once we had her dressed, however, she had other accessories in mind. She grabbed a birthday card that her Grandma and Grandpa sent her in June that hangs on a card holder in our living room and explained she wanted me to transfer the glitter from the card to her face and arms. She also told me she wanted her fingernails painted.

*Blink… Blink*

Thinking her mother had okayed this (and Mom not home from work yet), I agreed to paint her nails for the very first time ever. She was as giddy as could be but was such a lady while I applied a quick coat of Mommy’s nail polish to each tiny nail. She blew on her nails afterward and then refused to touch anything for the next two hours. But she was too cute for words and obviously loved this extra touch.

TheMonk, on the other hand, was also excited to wear his Spiderman costume… except for the mask. I can’t say I blame him since it did look quite uncomfortable. But you would never know he was displeased with his costume. On the contrary, he ran around the room shooting imaginary webs from his wrists and was, in fact, the perfect Spiderman.

Mommy soon showed up and we took our turkey chili along with Tinkerbell and Spiderman to a neighbors house for a little party prior to trick or treating. Fun was had by all. We scoured much more of the neighborhood than last year and acquired more candy than the kids will ever eat. But we had fun. Swee’Pea, after some initial fear of saying “Trick or Treat”, was shown the way by TheMonk and all the other party goers and soon she was racing from house to house as fast as her fairy wings could take her. TheMonk had one scare from what Swee’Pea tells us was the skeletons at our neighbors house (TheMonk won’t talk about it) but after some brief screaming, finished the evening on a high note.

We wrapped up the evening by handing out candy at home while snacking on a couple pieces of candy. A good time was had by all. Let’s do it again next year.

  4. How cute.
You’re brave to apply the nail polish on. If I did that on my little one, she would have it all over the furniture.

  5. Awww…they look so adorable. My nephew kept forgetting what to say when he and B&B got to the door. Instead, he asked, “Do you have Halloween here?” Dude, “Trick or treat” is so much easier!

  6. Yay for living in a warm enough climate you can see their totally cute costumes!!
Growing up, our costumes had to encorporate a heavy coat and boots, or no one would know what we were dressed as. Good times.
