Barack Obama or my Junior Prom?

An old high school friend surprised me last night by posting my Junior Prom photo on his Facebook page. A few things come to mind when viewing this photo…

1) I can’t remember the name of my date and I feel really bad about that. She was a very nice girl who I didn’t know very well and we had a nice evening but I don’t think we really ever talked much after that.

2) How 1980′s is my tux? You can’t tell in this photo but her dress was light pink and my cumber bun and tie matched her dress. I’m also digging those gray shoes.

3) I weighed about 135 pounds back then. I had like 2% body fat. I think I look much fatter healthier now that I’ve added forty-five a few pounds.

4) Is it just me or do I look like a young Barack Obama in this photo? (i.e. major ear protrudeness)

Be kind when commenting, please. I didn’t know any better back then.

What in the world were you thinking? I’m particularly focusing on the shoes – WTF? And yes, you do look like a young Barack Obama.

  2. Snicker… I was TEN in 1988.

Still, considering the passage of time, I think you’ve aged well! And neither of the kids seem to have any ear issues, so I think you’re in the clear.

  3. Ha! That pic is soooo 80′s! DrillSgt. has a few of those, only he has some with long wavy hair and a blonde streak—to look at him now you’d never know it was the same guy. You happen to look very clean cut and studious, as for the ears who really notices, I was too busy looking at the black stripe down the side of your pants…LOL!! Yeah, my prom date in 1988 wore a WHITE tux!

    Hugs & Blessings!

  6. Sorry I can’t help you out with more information about your date. However, I will let the world know that you attended EVERY formal dance in 4 years of High School.

I became known as an information and referral source for many mothers of teen boys as to where the best selections, best prices, best fittings were to be found and where to purchase the nicest coursages for the best price.

Something in me says, Barack Obama’s can’t say that.

  8. I’m an 80s survivor too! My prom date had the sleeves of his jacket pushed up a la Don Johnson in our photos. I later married him — but it wasn’t because of his keen fashion sense. :o )

  11. The ears were a bit on the um…large side, but you were cute. I like the suit, it was a nice color and you looked good in it.

The girl probably was named Sarah or Amy. Just a wild guess.

  15. She looks like an Amber. Or maybe a Kimmie.

I dig the shoes. The stripe down the pants has to go though.

  21. You’re a brave man. I would never post my prom pictures.

I can attest though that you were pretty stylish for the 80s. This is what every almost guy looked like at the prom…except I would never wear those shoes…I probably wore docksiders even when it was formal.

  22. I too am mesmerized by the shoes.
