Oh, of course. What was I thinking?

We are reading our nightly bedtime stories. This particular book we are reading has Dora examining different occupations she could have when she grows up. After reading about archaeologists, astronauts, Animal Rescuers and crack dealers we get to the page where Dora could be a cowgirl. The illustration shows a small pen with a horse, a cow, Dora, Boots, Benny the Bull and lots of cowgirl stuff.

None of the other stuff matters, however, as Swee’Pea becomes fixated with the horse. She loves the horse. She lets it be known that whatever she does, it has to involve the horse.

“So, Swee’Pea, do you want to be a cowgirl?” I ask.

“No.” Swee’Pea replies, shaking her head emphatically.

“I want to be a horse girl.”

  1. I have not yet encountered the book where Dora examines the occupation of being a crack dealer, please forward the title immediately as DrillSgt. and I would get a big kick out of reading that one! LOL!! I’m sure you were just checking to see if we were really reading your posts.

Has Swee’Pea given up her thoughts of being Princess or is “horse girl” in addition to?

    Hugs & Blessings!

  4. Accuracy in language…I admire Swee’Pea’s virtuous effort to make our spoken word more logical!

(Get ready for the onslaught of My Little Ponies…) ;)

  5. She wants to be a cowgirl, and you can be her cowboy!

Sounds like the horse addiction might be starting here. Get used to requests for ponies around every birthday… until the age of 17.

  7. Cheryl is correct – you are headed for My Little Pony, big time. On the horse front, both Ane and Tad love horses, and Ane has ridden a pony a couple of times. She now has an imaginary horse (much easier to feed, let me tell you).

Oh, and Ane told me at the end of our trip, “Mommy, when I grow up, I want to be the person who tells people to get on and off rides, keep your hands and arms and legs and feet inside, and please, watch your children.” I kid you not, she said all of that. Somehow, I think she’d be good at that.

  8. Wikipedia tells us that the horse wasn’t domesticated until 4000 BC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestication).

Which leaves the question: On what did little girls fixate before then?

  9. Yeah there’s nothing fun about being a cowgirl. The cows just sit there like lumps and eat grass & crap. Horse girls on the other hand get to wear all the cool stuff. Trust a child to be so literal about it all. Very cute.
