Tale of the Tape

Milestone update because we never updated that damn baby book.

Teeth
Bri: 5 (working on #6)
TheMonk: 4 (catching up quickly)

Words
Bri: Dada, Mama, Kitty, Hi, downstairs (allegedly)
TheMonk: Dada, Mama, Cracker (it had to be food)

Mobility
Both are pulling up and TheMonk will cruise more than Swee’Pea. Swee’Pea has just begun to figure out how to get down from the standing position. TheMonk can kneel down and lower himself to his butt. Today, Swee’Pea pulled herself up and decided, “To heck with it. I’m just gonna let go and see what happens.” She stood there for a few seconds like someone learning to surf for the first time. Her hands flayed out to her side and she had a look in her eye that seem to say, “Holy crap!”

Then she crumpled to her butt as Mommy and I realized our lives will never be the same.

  1. I think Baby Boy’s first word might be “no-no” – we sure say it enough to him and he’s repeating it a lot. The next runner-up may be “Dada.”

As far as his mobility – we had left the stepstool next to the counter. The monkey climbed it, got to the counter, and claimed his sister’s bottle of Flintstones vitamins as his prize. We quickly stripped him of it, and then got the camera to record his next attempt. You know, for posterity’s sake. All the while I was saying, “Crap, crap, CRAP – how am I going to keep this kid off things?” I’d sell my minivan for a pre-walker right about now.

  2. Of course Bri says “Kitty”. BTW, has she caught the elusive Nutmeg yet?

  3. The surfer analogy is so appropriate. Caroline for a week could only get off her knees slightly, with her butt high in the air, and couldn’t straighten out. Katherine could stand but had to hold her arms over her head like she was being robbed. If she dropped her arms she’d fall down.

  4. Are you sure “phone Grandmother” isn’t on the list?
