Daycare Daze – Part Deux

On Monday we start daycare with our second daycare provider.

What happened to the first? Well, we were concerned when we found out she had five children under the age of one and two more pre-school aged kids and no consistent help. Her license only allows three kids under the age of 2 and six kids total. I feel bad because going with this lady was my idea. I had great recommendations from people who knew her personally and I trusted she was the right fit. I’m still not sure why she told me for months she had room for two infants when clearly she did not. It was a learning experience for this rookie father. I should have asked more questions. I should have looked at more providers. I should have…

Oh well. What’s done is done. Tomorrow we begin again and I can only hope this is the last time we have to switch providers. The kids handle it fine. It’s Daddy that has a little trouble coping with the change.

  1. Sorry you have to go through this – I hope the new one works out well!

  2. You can always pack them off to Mary P. I think often about doing that with mine . . .

  3. Man, we’re on the hunt for daycare… and I feel your pain! I guess this is just the first of the hard decisions we’re going to have to make in our kid’s lives.

  4. Matt. Don’t worry. We have seen numerous friends in this situation. It could be worse – she could have injured your two little buddies before you figured it out. Everything happens for a reason, and I am sure this will work out for the best!

Oh, and it is not your fault.

  5. Sorry to hear that it didn’t work out. But so glad that you found out about it. Since the kids are new to daycare, it’s best that you found out so quickly. This way they didn’t get too used to her routine. Let us know how this 2nd daycare situation is going…

  7. It can be so hard to find the right place for your children. I interviewed no less than 13 people, and visited 9 of them before I found the right person to care for my son.

Once he got into preschool, we thought we had the right fit again. I was swayed by the pretty outside and the child art everywhere. Turns out they did not much more than babysit. They let the kids run wild, never wiped faces, and didn’t even let me know how my kid got bruises (had to find out from my kid and another kid). We pulled him out of that place pretty quickly and found another school that we all love.

My point is that sometimes you have to make childcare changes and it’s ok to do that!

  8. Don’t beat yourself up, Dude. These things do happen. She should have been more honest with you and herself!

  9. I agree with MIM, stuff happens, even when you do all of the research.

Best of luck on Daycare #2… waiting with anticipation for the update.

  10. Five children under the age of one? I grow faint at the thought…

  11. Hi Matthew and all

Thanks for dropping by granny and please come back. We have a lot of fun over there. It’s a wonderful group of good “virtual” friends. We even have a few guys so you won’t feel out there all by yourself.

Day care – I remember it well. Some good – some bad.
