Dead or Alive?

It’s a new kind of scary when you look into your 6-month-old son’s crib in the morning to find him lying on his stomach for the first time. And it wasn’t a comfortable, “I’m just sleeping”, lying on the stomach. No, it looked like a body found on the streets of one of the many television crime shows on nowadays.

Needless to say I quickly checked for vitals. However that was unecessary when TheMonk turned to look at me. His look said, “What? Can’t you see I’m sleeping here?”

  1. Been there, done that. Even now at three years of age (them, not me) I find myself doing that.

  2. Cool! It won’t be the last time he freaks you out. Today is John Lennon’s and his cousin Tommy’s birthday. Just in case he forgot.

  3. I probably think one of my kids is dead at least once a week. I’m not proud of this.

  7. I once read a book in which a woman woke one morning to discover that her high-need, very challenging child had, for the first time, slept through the night. Her response? She sat down at the kitchen table and had a quiet morning cup of coffee, her first in over a year. If he’d died in the night, she reasoned, she’d need the fortification, and another fifteen minutes wouldn’t make any difference.

I just about peed myself laughing. (Did I mention my first was colicky? I was sooo there.)

  8. Isn’t it freaky? I’m glad I’m not the only one who jumps to that conclusion.

  9. Wait until one of your kids has the first bloody nose during the night and wakes up looking like a CSI crime scene.

    Just wait.

  10. I’ve done that. It’s weird to see them in a totally uncomfortable-looking pose.
