Another thing nobody told me about parenting
I don’t spend a lot of time examining my knees. They are there. They work most of the time. I pretty much take them for granted.
Lately, as I’ve been doing the scrub-down in the shower I have noticed that my knees have what looked like dry patches on them. Even that didn’t cause me to inspect them much closer.
A few days ago, however, I had a few extra seconds when drying off after my shower to take a closer look (and when I say a few extra seconds, I’m being truthful. My shower time is always a delicate balance between blissful solitude and hearing the babies screaming in the next room while Andrea yells over the screaming to find out what’s taking me so long). But I digress. What I noticed upon careful inspection was not your typical dry skin.
I have calluses.
On my knees.
From always crawling around on the carpet while playing with the twins.
So, do I keep the calluses for the time being because now that I think about it, the crawling around has become less painful on the knees? Or do I loofah those bad boys right outta here?
See what parenthood has done to me? It’s come down to me now contemplating using a loofah.

Dude… if you start using a loofa you might as well start wearing panties.

I have crazy dry patches on the tops of my feet from changing diapers on the carpet.

Nice work! To crawl around enough to develop calluses? I’d wear those bad boys like badges of honor.

I had those!!! Just keep em…they are like war wounds to brag about to other parents so you can prove how involved you are!

A little Ponds Cold Cream will soften those calluses.

It will come in handy when you are being the human horsie in a year. I’d keep it for sure.

Keep them. They are part of being Daddy. (and I agree with Melissa, they’ll come in VERY handy when playing horsey next year.)

You earned them - you’d better keep them. Melissa and Julie are correct about the horse business. I recommend doing some weight training now to prepare your arms and back to support the weight of both kids.

Ha! This hits home because I put on a dress for the first time in God knows when last weekend to attend a wedding. On the drive there, I noticed my knees looked rough. I kept rubbing them and Chris asked me what I was doing. I realized it was from spending all day on the floor with the babies. I’m going with moisturizer after baths. Now, if I could just bathe regularly…:)

I vote for the loofa. If you’re not too proud to consider it - you deserve sweet, soft knees

I still believe that Singleton Baby Parents have no idea how us parents (and grandparents) have to adapt in care for our twins. In the past, I have tried to ‘warn’ a few expecting parents of twins on how THE FLOOR will become your best friend during the first year, at least.
