Cool, kinda like the traditional tamales and turkey for Thanksgiving or Christmas or New Years. I love the idea of gooey Christmas cake...hmmm

Oshogatsu is a big deal in our family, too. My Obachan starts with me driving her to Uwajimaya, our large local Asian grocery store, so she can buy stuff. Then we all go to her place on New Year's Day and gorge ourselves silly on a strange combination of Japanese/Asian and American foods (the inarizushi and makizushi go right next to the spicy Korean chicken, which is by the big chow mein pot over by the rainbow jello). We all leave stuffed to the gills and Obachan does her typical martyr bit and says, "Oh, I think this is the last year I'm doing this..." and none of us take her seriously anymore.
