Party Time, Excellent!
So, I traveled great distance yesterday to attend the L.A. Blogger Party at a house nestled within the Hollywood Hills. Not having really ever spent time in Hollywood I half expected to look into my rearview mirror and see Lindsay Lohan tailgaiting me as I navigated Mullholland Drive. Instead it was a forty-something woman in a Mercedes who very badly wanted to look twenty.
But that wasn’t the highlight of the evening. No, the highlight of the evening was definitely meeting the eclectic mix of great bloggers who attended. Out of the twenty to thirty bloggers who attended (plus significant others) I really only knew the two “daddy bloggers” LA Daddy (who hosted the event with his lovely wife, LA Mommy) and Whit from Honea Express who also attended with his lovely wife. In fact, if there is a theme among Daddy Bloggers, it seems that we all have managed to marry women who are a lot better looking than we are. It must be our way with words.
Aside from the Daddy Bloggers, I did meet some other fantastic people. House of Prince, Tara Met Blog, Rattling The Kettle (Oh, he also falls into the “married up” category. And was fun to talk to as it brought back memories of living in New York), Leah Peah, September 10th and Kitchen Fire. There were others who I know I’m forgetting now, but once LA Daddy gets over his hangover, I’m sure he’ll link all those who showed.
Okay, who’s hosting the next party?

Alas, I don’t think all those people would fit in our little two-bedroom apartment. That house would be a tough act to follow.
I had fun. I didn’t really know anyone either, but everyone was so friendly it didn’t matter.

deedle-deedle-deedle (that’s my air guitar for your party time line)
I had a great time. You made my wife’s night by saying I married up. Seems like she would be used to it by now.
I’m really glad you came up, I know that’s a big trek, but hopefully seeing a bunch of drunks was well worth it.

Hey there. You daddy bloggers weren’t a bad looking lot. Give yourself some credit! Nice to meet someone from San Diego. You did traverse the miles, didn’t you? My husband (Manpower dude) was surprised that I met someone who knows Phil Blair/Mel Katz. Small world. Keep up the good blogging.

Well, that’s quite the drive from KC, so …

However, if you all are ever in this area, let me know and we’ll whip y’all up some barbeque.

[...] I also had the chance to meet several new-to-me bloggers, all of whose latest 10 entries are filling up my Google Reader and ensuring that I will get no work done today. Matthew from ChildsPlay×2 was kind enough to abandon his twins, drive up from San Diego and explain the finer points of blogging to my sister-in-law. Kim from the House of Prince lugged her breast pump up the hill to the party, and thereby instantly won the undying adoration of my wife. Debra from Write Write Baby brought not only her new zygote, but also her cute-as-a-button toddler, who did not seem to want to sleep while everyone else was having a good time. Rachel managed to not set the kitchen on fire, for which I’m sure our hosts were grateful. Sara September somehow managed to have a good time without drinking — I wonder what that’s like… [...]

You all must not be Native Californians. Driving 3 hours for a party is normal.
