My husband had a job that kept him working most days from 8 to 8 or later for a while. That meant he got home after the kids went to bed. It really bugged him that he only got to really see them and spend time with them on the weekends. Now, he has his home business and is doing well. He is able to come home for lunch sometimes and is usually home by 4 or 5, which lets us have family dinner and time together afterwards before having to send the kids up to bed.

Just enjoy the huge homecoming you do get most days. Those are precious.

Sometimes I feel guilty I get those big welcomes when I get home from work. My husband works at home and never gets the celebration.

Too often I have that happen. It's nice to come home and have a bit of quiet, maybe a beer and some Sportscenter, but let's face it- what we really need are hugs.

It was really hard for the Webmaster when he took a business trip last December. Luckily, Ane is old enough that she could talk to him on the phone. Tad just about bowled him over when he got back. Fortunately, this was a rare occurence and he's usually home at bedtime. I grew up with my dad working a swing-shift and he was never home at bedtime except during the summer. It was a strange way to grow up, but whenever we had to stay home from school because we were sick, it was fun because we got extra time with Dad.

I was fortunate enough to have a pay-check job for the first few years after my son was born. Home at 4:15, every day. Because of that, I've become very protective of my family time.

My new employer has an event next week that runs from 6pm to (I'm hearing) 'around 10'. Which is just unacceptable, and makes me livid. That's me apart from my family for twelve hours.

It is a hard thing my man… but what always helps me get through it is thinking how happy they will be when I come home and they see me and I see them.
